WOMEN'S HEALTH
Physiotherapy treatment improves the quality of women’s lives by empowering them to take control of their pelvic floor. Pelvic floor issues have a real impact on people's lives but please do not suffer in silence without exploring physiotherapy. Evidence suggests consulting a pelvic floor specialist physiotherapist as the first line of treatment, rather than a surgical approach.
Pelvic floor problems may present as incontinence with sneezing, coughing or jumping, or you may have symptoms of a vaginal prolapse, such as a dragging, heavy feeling in the vagina, lower abdomen and/or awareness of a bulge in the area. You may be unable to control the urge to pass wind or have pelvic pain.
Many issues arise from the side effects of menopause which can lead to pelvic floor weakness, vaginal atrophy and dryness. There are also pregnancy-related musculoskeletal problems for instance back and pelvic pain, and diastasis recti (stretching of the abdominal muscles).
These are some symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction, however many of these symptoms can be significantly improved, if not cured, by Women’s Health Physiotherapy. I can help with treatment for physical aches and pains, pelvic floor rehabilitation and self-care strategies to improve mood, sleep and wellbeing.
